Enabling individuals to purchase A home
As an early team member at NIST, a home loan application startup, I contributed to shaping the platform, developing the UI library, conducting user research, and establishing its foundational business. Joining as one of the first 15 hires, I helped establish NIST as a leading player in the B2C home loan comparison and closure landscape.
NIST was a Berlin based home loan broker. Starting from scratch I created a CI, UI library, components, a modern and fresh website and a user friendly dashboard. Shortly after the company was founded in 2018 I was hired to bring their vision to life. The intuitive website and personal dashboard helped NIST’s customers to easily buy their own home.

Rent Slider
To help people understand how much they can afford, I created a concept and a design for the so called rent slider. The rent slider is easy to use and understand – user can either slide or type in their current rent and the price they can afford will show underneath.
From this feature our customers could directly get an appointment to discuss potential offers by clicking the CTA below the slider.
Additional Costs Calculator
Understanding how much you can afford is the first step to buying a property. However, a lot of times people forget about the additional costs of buying your own home. Additional costs vary depending on the location of the property, its price and whether a realtor is involved. Thus, creating a calculator was the logical step to do.
Firstly, customers can choose the state of the property which indicates the percentages of the additional costs such as the land register entry or the brokerage fees. In the next step, the property price is entered and lastly, users could choose whether a broker is involved.
The calculator showed a detailed overview of all the additional costs specifically for the users‘ needs.
Interest Rate Calculator
Once future home owners where aware of the total price of their property including additional costs they wanted to find out the interest rate. Thus, the exact numbers can best be discussed with one of NIST’s mortgage advisors it was important to me to give our users the option of finding great rates at the comfort of their home.
The interest rate calculator is – from a technical perspective – one of the most challenging ones to implement but one of the easiest to use. Customers only needed to type in the price of their future property as well as their equity et voilà – a possible monthly and interest rate where quickly shown.
From there, users could quickly and easily get an appointment to speak with NIST’s mortgage advisor to get the best rates for their mortgage.
